Two hard-hitting fighters compete for light heavyweight gold at Madison Square Garden on November 11. At UFC 295, Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira fight for the vacant UFC light heavyweight title. The event will air on ESPN+ PPV in the U.S.
Prochazka is a former UFC light heavyweight champion who had to vacate the title after injuring himself. The Czech fighter trained in Thai boxing, winning gold in the 2011 Czech National Championships. He has 25 wins via knockout and three via submission, using every part of his body as a weapon.
Pereira is a former kickboxing champion with 21 wins via knockout. Turning to MMA full-time in 2020, “Poatan” has six wins via knockout thanks to his devastating power. The ground game has been a crutch for the Brazilian, and Prochazka looks to take advantage in what could be a Fight of the Year contender.
“It’s for me a beautiful story and big challenge,” Prochazka told Shakiel Mahjouri via MMA Fighting.
“I have to say, Alex, he’s not a good martial artist like on the ground on the wrestling, but one thing he can do and knows what to do is his striking. It will be a pleasure to compete with him in the stand-up. He’s good in stand-up but not good in wrestling and all these things. He’s too much focused on striking. He’s very good at that, but on the other things, other styles, he’s not good, too. I am not too good of a wrestler to say that, but I think I am better than him. Doesn’t matter. That’s my opinion, my stance.”
