More than a year after he retired from the sport, the former super featherweight champion Jamel Herring returns against Nick Molina live on DAZN on November 7.
The 38-year-old Herring, a former Marine, won gold in the 2012 U.S. National Championships and turned pro in 2012. In 2019, “Semper Fi” put a patchy stretch at lightweight behind him to beat Masayuki Ito for the WBO super featherweight title.
After retiring Carl Frampton in 2021, Herring would lose to Shakur Stevenson later that year via TKO. The ex-champ’s last fight was a unanimous decision loss to Jamaine Ortiz in May 2021 and he retired shortly thereafter.
“I thought I could stay away, but I miss the excitement and action of a good fight. And, of course, I’ve missed the fans,” said Herring via 15 Rounds. “But what’s really driving me is the opportunity to fight on Veterans Day week to honor the men and women I served with. This event is for a great charitable cause, and my focus is to become a world champion yet again. I can’t wait to step back into the ring and give it my all.”
Molina turned pro in 2020. “Saint Nick” is unbeaten and has five wins via knockout. His last fight was a unanimous decision win over Aldimar Silva in July.

The Lou DiBella-ran event will honor all military personnel who sacrificed their lives during wartime. Proceeds will support Merging Vets and Players, as well as the West Point Society of New York.
If he wins, Herring may continue to box and potentially fight top fighters within the super featherweight division. One of those boxer is the IBF super featherweight champion, Joe Cordina.
“If all goes as planned, Joe Cordina could be next,” Herring told Boxing Scene.
