What is the Netflix Cup? Why PGA, Formula 1 stars are playing in golf tournament

Formula 1 drivers can operate a vehicle going 220 mph with ease, but can they chip onto the green from 100 feet away? We’re about to find out at the Netflix Cup.

Here is everything fans need to know about the Netflix Cup, including who is participating and how to watch.

The Netflix Cup is Netflix’s first-ever live sports event. It is taking prominent figures from two of the platform’s most popular shows, “Formula 1: Drive to Survive” and “Full Swing.”

The teams will compete for the inaugural Netflix Cup title. The event kicks off an important week in Las Vegas for F1, as the first-ever Formula 1 Heineken Silver Las Vegas Grand Prix is set to take place this weekend after the golf tournament.

The Netflix Cup features a crossover between PGA golfers and Formula 1 racers 1. Four racers from “Formula 1: Drive to Survive” and four golfers from “Full Swing” are set to play against one another in the tournament.

Here are the eight participants in the event:

It shouldn’t come to anyone’s surprise that the way to watch the Netflix Cup is through Netflix.

The streaming platform will air the event live through the Netflix app and on on Tuesday, Nov. 14. The event is set to start at 6 p.m. ET, 3 p.m. local time in Las Vegas.

Fans will have to have a Netflix subscription in order to watch the event. Netflix currently has three plans available for new customers: Standard with ads ($6.99), Standard ($15.49) and Premium ($22.99). There is no free trial available for Netflix.

The event will be hosted by FanDuel’s Kay Adams, PGA Tour player Joel Dahmen, comedian Bert Kreischer and former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch.

Each F1 driver is being paired with a PGA golfer for the event.

The first match will be between Lando Norris and Rickie Fowler vs. Carlos Sainz and Justin Thomas.

The second match will feature Alex Albon and Max Homa vs. Pierre Gasly and Collin Morikawa.

The game will be played in a scramble format. In a four-man scramble, every player hits a tee shot, and then for the rest of the hole, each pairing can choose which is the “best ball” to hit. This allows teams to strategize how to approach a hole based on the shots. Once a ball is decided to be the better one, both golfers will hit a ball from that spot.

It is played in this format until the hole is complete. There are no rules as to which player’s ball the pairing selects.

The Netflix Cup is taking place at Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev. It is a 6,7322-yard, par-70 course.
