ENGLAND’s penultimate fixture in Euro 2024 qualifying sees them come up against Malta at Wembley on Friday night.
Gareth Southgate’s side confirmed their place in Germany next summer with a 3-1 win against Italy last month, on a night where both of my bets copped in the English capital.
With two games left to negotiate, the Three Lions will now look to ensure that they conclude their campaign as group winners.
In fact, a win over Malta on Friday night would guarantee England top spot with one game to spare.
Michele Marcolini’s minnows are propping up the section and find themselves without a single win from their opening seven Group C contests.
Malta briefly threatened to upset Ukraine in their last outing before being outclassed 3-1 by the Blue and Yellow.
England are lowly 1/50 favourites with Bet 365 to bag the win that would confirm a first-place finish in Group C.
As expected, Malta are massive outsiders at 100/1 with PaddyPower while the draw is as big as 35/1 (PaddyPower) with the same firm.
With the prices as they are, it’s a case of having to get creative to engineer any sort of selection with a view to keeping England onside.
I’ll therefore head to the Bet Builder market and merge England Half Time/Full Time, Over 3 England Goals and Both Teams to Score No to give us backable 4/5 (Bet 365) shot.
England have long held the reputation as one of the international circuits ultimate flat-track bullies when hosting the lesser lights and it should be more of the same against Malta.
While Gareth Southgate is expected to ring the changes on Friday night, the England boss has incredible amount of talent to choose from, so even an experimental line-up should make light work of Malta.
As such, I’ll back the Three Lions to lead at half-time on route to another victory, but to bolster the odds, I’ll also take the hosts to rack up at least four strikes.
Michele Marcolini’s men leaked four goals when they visited Italy last month so this could be an absolute bloodbath given that star-studded England are a step up in class.
To conclude the selection, I’ll go with what is an efficient England outfit to record a clean sheet in what is very much an international mismatch.
This Bet Builder would have provided profit from June’s reverse fixture between the pair and supporting the same wager at Wembley on Friday night should give us a good run for our money at 4/5 (Bet 365).
