Denmark vs Slovenia Prediction & Match Preview

It is a straight shootout for top spot in Group H of the European Championship qualifiers as Denmark host Slovenia on Friday. A closely fought encounter is expected here, although the Danes will be relying on their vocal home support and are expected to have the slight edge here.

It has been an impressive qualifying campaign for Denmark, who have lost just once in eight matches. The Danes are joint top with Slovenia in Group H, although they have an inferior goal difference to their rivals.

Denmark appear to have turned things up a notch in recent weeks having won their last four qualifying matches. They picked up a 2-1 victory in San Marino last time out with Rasmus Hojlund and Yussuf Poulsen getting the goals.

Home form is usually pivotal for Denmark in most qualifying campaigns and they have been perfect in front of their fans in Group H. In fact, Kasper Hjulmand’s men have won their last seven home matches in European qualifiers, a run stretching back to 2019.

Slovenia have also enjoyed a solid qualifying campaign so far and are seemingly matching Denmark win for win. They have suffered just one defeat in eight matches and are actually above the Danes on goal difference.

The Slovenians head into Friday’ clash with four wins in their last five qualifying matches. They picked up a 1-0 victory over Northern Ireland in their previous fixture with Adam Cerin’s early effort proving the difference.

Slovenia’a only defeat in Group H has come on their travels as they were beaten 2-0 in Finland back in June. Overall, Matjaz Kek’s men have lost three of their last six away matches in European qualifiers stretching back to 2019.

The bookies have installed Denmark as overwhelming favourites with a home win priced at 4/7 by Betfred. A victory for Slovenia is valued at 13/2 by bet365 while a draw is set at odds of 3/1 by Unibet.

Denmark have never lost to Slovenia with four wins and a draw from five previous meetings. That draw came in the reverse fixture as both teams battled to a 1-1 scoreline back in June.

Denmark will be without top scorer Rasmus Hojlund, who is currently sidelined with injury. The Danes will look to striker Jonas Wind, who has scored in three of the last six qualifying matches and is priced at 6/4 by William Hill to find the net on Friday.

Benjamin Sesko has impressed for Slovenia I these qualifiers with four goals in eight matches so far. The attacker could be worth keeping an eye on to score anytime on Friday at 4/1 with William Hill.
