One of boxing’s brightest stars is looking to become a three-division champion at just 26. Shakur Stevenson competes for the vacant WBC lightweight title against Edwin De Los Santos on a rare Thursday fight night inside T-Mobile Arena.
It is the second time the Newark-born Stevenson fights for the vacant gold. He beat Joet Gonzalez in 2019 for the WBO featherweight title. Moving up in weight, he beat Jamel Herring in 2021 for the WBO super featherweight belt.
Stevenson is fighting for the WBC title after Devin Haney bulked up to fight Regis Prograis for the super lightweight crown. Stevenson said: “This means the world to me. I’ve been grinding my whole life for these moments. I’m just here to do what I got to do. I’m focused. I’m ready. Showtime on Thursday.”
De Los Santos replaces Frank Martin, who backed out of a potential fight during contract negotiations. On a three-fight win streak, De Los Santos is the +700 underdog, per Bet MGM. Can the Dominican pull off the upset?
